Buying a puppy
How do I reserve a corgi puppy from F&M Corgis?
Call (620) 764-3565 or email michelle@fmcorgi.com to choose your puppy. Your deposit must reach us within 4 days of your verbal or written commitment. After that, the puppy is offered to other interested families.
How much does a corgi puppy from F&M Corgis cost?
The puppies currently listed on our site are priced between $3,000 and $3,300, and each puppy page shows its own price. Prices are for AKC registered, microchipped, vet-checked puppies with a genetic health guarantee.
What comes with my puppy?
Every pup is AKC registered and comes with a genetic health guarantee, copies of the parents' pedigrees, and a microchip. Pups are up to date on worming and come with a certificate of vet health check. We register and transfer your puppy with AKC and AKC Reunite.
Are your corgi puppies AKC registered?
Yes. All of our dogs are registered with the American Kennel Club, and every puppy is registered and transferred to you through AKC. Pedigree copies for both parents are included.
Do your puppies come with a health guarantee?
Yes. Every puppy comes with a genetic health guarantee, and our About page describes a 5 year health guarantee. Ask Michelle for the written terms before you reserve.
Are your puppies microchipped?
Yes. All puppies are microchipped with AKC Reunite before they go home. The chip is registered through AKC so a lost pup can be traced back to you.
Can I see the parents of the puppy I want?
Yes. Our Corgis page shows the dams and sires behind our litters, with photos and health testing notes. Each puppy page also names its parents, for example "Spider's blue collar male".
Can I choose between a male and a female?
Yes. Each puppy page lists the sex, and you can browse all available pups on the Puppies page. If you have a strong preference, call Michelle and she can tell you what is coming in upcoming litters.
What does the collar color on each puppy mean?
We use a colored collar to tell littermates apart while they are growing up. It is only an identifier, so a puppy might be listed as the blue collar male or the pink collar female of a litter.
What does PENDING mean on a puppy listing?
Pending means a family has committed to that puppy and the reservation is being finalized. If the deposit does not arrive in time, the puppy may become available again.
Can I put my name on a waiting list?
Call or email Michelle to ask about upcoming litters from our current parents. She will tell you what is expected and how to reserve once puppies are born.
How old are puppies when they go home?
Michelle will tell you the go-home date for each litter when you reserve. Puppies stay with us through their early vet checks, worming, microchipping and crate and potty training.
How do I know your listings are real and current?
Every puppy on our site is shown with its own photos and page, and you can call us at (620) 764-3565 to confirm availability. We are a licensed Kansas breeder at 153 S. 260th St, Mulberry, KS.
Are you a licensed breeder?
Yes. We hold licenses as a breeder in Kansas and with the USDA, and we are members of the Tri-State Kennel Club of Joplin, MO.
Who will I be dealing with when I buy a puppy?
You will talk with Michelle Horning, who raises the puppies with her husband Frank. She answers questions before the sale and for the life of your corgi.
Can I visit before I buy?

Ask about health testing of both parents, registration, the health guarantee, how the puppies are raised, and what support continues after you take your puppy home. Our blog guide on contacting breeders walks through the full list.
Puppy health
Are the parent dogs health tested?
Yes. All parents are health tested, and individual dog pages list results such as DM, VWD1 and EIC clear, OFA hips, elbows and eyes, and fluffy carrier status.
What genetic tests are done on corgis?
Common tests for Pembroke Welsh Corgis include degenerative myelopathy (DM), von Willebrand disease type 1 (VWD1) and exercise-induced collapse (EIC), plus OFA evaluations of hips, elbows and eyes. Each of our parent dogs' tested results is listed on its page.
What is degenerative myelopathy (DM)?
DM is an inherited disease of the spinal cord that can cause hind-leg weakness in older dogs. A DNA test tells breeders whether a dog is clear, a carrier or at risk, so they can pair dogs to avoid producing affected puppies.
What is VWD1 in corgis?
Von Willebrand disease type 1 is an inherited bleeding disorder. Breeders test for it with a DNA swab so affected puppies are not produced.
What is EIC in corgis?
EIC stands for exercise-induced collapse, an inherited condition where a dog can collapse after intense exercise. A simple DNA test shows whether a dog is clear or carries the gene.
What does OFA certified mean?
OFA is the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, which evaluates hips, elbows and other health areas and publishes the results. A rating such as "Fair" hips or "Normal" eyes tells you how that dog scored.
What does fluffy carrier mean?
"Fluffy" is a long-coat trait in corgis caused by a recessive gene. A fluffy carrier has a normal coat but can pass the gene on, so two carriers can produce long-coated puppies.
Are fluffy corgis healthy?
A fluffy coat is a cosmetic coat-length variation and does not by itself mean poor health. The parents' health testing matters more than coat length.
Are your puppies vaccinated and wormed?
Puppies are up to date on worming and receive a vet health check, which is documented with a certificate. Michelle will go over the vaccination schedule your vet should continue after you take your puppy home.
What vaccinations does a corgi puppy need?
Puppies usually receive a series of core vaccines starting at about 6 to 8 weeks and boosters every few weeks until about 16 weeks, plus rabies. Your veterinarian sets the exact schedule.
When should I take my new puppy to the vet?
Schedule a first visit within the first few days of bringing your puppy home. Bring the vet certificate, worming record and vaccination records we send with the puppy.
What health problems are common in corgis?
Corgis can be prone to back problems because of their long spines, hip dysplasia, eye conditions, and weight gain. Health tested parents, a healthy weight and avoiding repeated jumping from heights all help.
Do corgis get back problems?
Their long backs make some corgis prone to disc trouble. Keep your corgi lean, use ramps or steps for furniture and cars, and avoid rough jumping.
How long do corgis live?
Corgis typically live about 12 to 14 years with good care, a healthy weight and regular vet visits.
What is NuVet Plus and why do you recommend it?
NuVet Plus is a supplement for dogs that F&M Corgis offers a discount link for. Our NuVet page has the order code (28385) and a 15% AutoShip savings, and you can ask your vet whether it suits your dog.
Breeds
What is the difference between Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis?

Pembrokes usually stand around 10 to 12 inches tall and weigh up to about 30 pounds. Individual dogs vary with their lines and weight.
How big do Cardigan Welsh Corgis get?

A tri-color corgi has black, tan and white coloring. It is a standard Pembroke color, and we have a tri-colored Pembroke guide on our blog.

Both do well with children and other dogs when raised and socialized properly. Cardigans are often described as a bit steadier, while Pembrokes are often more outgoing. Our blog guide compares them in detail.
Are corgis good with kids?
Yes, corgis are affectionate and playful with children. Because they are herding dogs, they may try to nip at heels, so teach kids and puppies gentle play and give early training.
Are corgis good with other dogs and cats?
Most corgis get along with other pets when they are socialized early. Our puppies grow up around people and other dogs, which helps them adjust.
Are corgis good for first-time dog owners?
Yes, corgis are intelligent and eager to please, which makes them trainable. First-time owners should plan for consistent training, daily exercise and regular grooming.
Are corgis smart?
Corgis are among the smartest herding breeds and learn commands quickly. They need mental work such as training games and puzzle toys to stay out of trouble.
Do corgis bark a lot?
Corgis are vocal watchdogs and can bark at passing people and noises. Early training and enough exercise keep barking manageable.
Are corgis good apartment dogs?
They can be, if they get daily walks and play. Their size suits small spaces, but their bark and energy need an outlet.
How much exercise does a corgi need?
Plan on at least 30 to 60 minutes of activity a day, such as walks and play. Corgis love games and tend to gain weight if they do not get enough exercise.
Do corgis like to cuddle?

What is a corgi's temperament like?
Corgis are alert, friendly, intelligent and active. They were bred to herd cattle, so they are energetic and confident.
Do corgis herd people?
Yes, a corgi may nip gently at heels because that is how they herded cattle. Redirect the behavior with training and toys when your puppy is young.
Can corgis be left alone?
Adult corgis can be left for a normal workday once they are trained and have exercised, but they do not like long periods of isolation. Puppies need more frequent breaks.
Care and training
How much do corgis shed?
A lot. Corgis have a double coat and shed year round, with heavier shedding twice a year. Brushing a few times a week helps.
How often should I groom my corgi?
Brush two to three times a week and every day during heavy shedding. Trim nails regularly and bathe as needed. Our blog has a full grooming guide.
Should I shave my corgi in summer?
No. A corgi's double coat helps insulate against heat and sun, and shaving can damage it. Brush out loose undercoat and provide shade and water.
How do I trim a corgi puppy's nails?
Start trimming gently when your puppy is young, a little at a time, and reward calm behavior. Our pups get weekly nail trims here, so they arrive used to it.
How do I crate train a corgi puppy?
Make the crate a comfortable den with a bed and treats, feed meals in it, and increase time gradually. Our puppies are acclimated to crates before they go home.
How do I potty train a corgi puppy?
Take your puppy out after meals, naps and play, to the same spot, and praise immediately. Crate and potty training begin with us, so the first week at home is easier.
How long does it take to housebreak a corgi?
Most puppies are mostly reliable in a few weeks to a few months with consistent routine. Accidents are normal until the puppy matures.
How do I stop my corgi puppy from nipping?
Redirect nipping to a toy, stop play when teeth touch skin, and reward gentle behavior. It is a normal herding instinct that fades with training.
How do I teach my corgi to walk on a leash?
Start indoors with a light leash, reward walking beside you, and stop when the puppy pulls. Short, positive sessions work best.
What should I feed a corgi puppy?
Feed a high quality puppy food formulated for small to medium breeds, and follow the label and your vet's advice. Michelle can tell you what your puppy is eating when it goes home so you can transition gradually.
How much should I feed my corgi?
Portion by age, weight and activity, and measure meals. Corgis gain weight easily, which strains their backs.
How often should I feed a corgi puppy?
Young puppies usually eat three to four small meals a day. Moving to two meals a day happens as they grow, as guided by your vet.
How do I keep my corgi at a healthy weight?
Measure food, limit treats, and give daily exercise. You should be able to feel the ribs and see a waist from above.
Do corgis need a lot of training?
They are smart and eager, so training is rewarding, but they need consistency. Start socialization and basic commands as soon as your puppy comes home.
How do I socialize my corgi puppy?
Introduce your puppy to people, sounds, surfaces and friendly vaccinated dogs in positive ways. Our pups are handled daily and have constant contact with people and other dogs.
What toys are good for corgi puppies?
Durable chew toys, puzzle feeders and balls too large to swallow are good choices. Rotate toys to keep them interesting.

How do I keep my corgi cool in summer?
Provide shade, fresh water and walks in cooler hours. Never leave a dog in a parked car.
Can corgis jump off furniture?

Cost and ownership
Why do corgi puppies cost what they do?

What other costs should I plan for with a corgi?
Budget for food, vet visits, vaccines, flea and heartworm prevention, grooming supplies, training classes, toys, a crate and bed. Our blog guide on budgeting for a corgi covers the full picture.

A corgi is a long commitment of time and money, repaid by companionship. Choosing a health-tested puppy from a responsible breeder helps avoid costly problems later.
What should I do if I can no longer keep my corgi?
Contact Michelle first. A responsible breeder wants to help with placement for the life of the dog.
